Last night I went to see While We Were Here starring Kate Bosworth at the Tribeca Film Festival.  It was definitely a good one and even better than I hoped.  It's getting a little warmer outside and I'm ready to fall back in love with the city like I do every spring.  Nevertheless, I still wax nostalgic for those days when everything about New York seemed so new and exciting and magical.  Sometimes I feel like I've done it all.  My resolution to travel more this year couldn't have come at a better time since I definitely haven't done much of that.  I don't need any new clothes for my European vacation next month, but I did get two books (both mysteries) and a Kate Spade Gia.

Inspired by the many "what's in my bag" posts by fellow bloggers I started of thinking of better ways to organize my purse.  It has always irritated me to see how messy the inside of my work bag looks and I finally decided to do something about it.  Now all of my receipts, mail, and other scraps of paper can be slyly hidden in what is meant to be a cosmetics case.  Between the gia, my bright green wallet, and my polka dot cosmetics case (all kate spade!) I have a colorful party going on inside my work bag now and I love it.  I hope this makes it easier to dig out my keys.  I think this will be a great place to store receipts and souvenir ticket stubs while abroad.  It can even double as a clutch for one of our evenings out.

Shopping Karma

I know this is a terrible picture. I'm sorry. But my camera phone is broken and I don't know how to use my real camera. Anyway. It was the summer of 2009. I was broke and unemployed and waiting for my bar results. I walked into the Betsey Johnson store in Soho with a couple of friends and saw a dress that I just had to have. Unfortunately, it was $350. Poor responsible me went home empty handed and forlorn.  Fast forward three years.  I walked into Beacon's Closet a few weeks ago as I am sticking to my decision of buying vintage as much as possible.  From the doorway I could see my dress sticking out slightly from the rack and I could not believe my eyes.  It was in perfect condition for a mere $40 and in my size.  Talk about meant to be.  It's finally mine and I don't love it any less than I did three years ago.  I've already worn it twice.  Even better, I am at least two sizes smaller now than I was summer of 2009.  Had I bought it back then, I wouldn't even be able to enjoy it.  This find really solidified to me that I can do my part for the environment, save money, and still get my shopping fix when I need it.

As Easy as ABC

Getting visits from two different law school friends had me remembering the good times (no matter few and far between they seemed at the time). Despite the torture of it all I made several life long friends. The best thing that came out of my law school experience was A, my roomate, and a fellow New Yorker.  For her birthday we went to ABC Kitchen this past Saturday night.

Feminist Rant

Most of my friends are supremely anti-feminist so reading this today made me feel so encouraged.

A Night at the Opera

Thanks to my friend A, I was able to check another resolution off my list for 2012.  Monday night, L and I went to see Macbeth at the Metropolitan Opera.  When I saw La Traviata at a church in Rome I started thinking that maybe opera was too high class for me.  Turns out that it is not.  The orchestra and the venue were incredible.  The Met totally turned my opinion of the genre around.  It helps that I'm a huge Shakepeare nerd.  I saw Liev Schreiber in Macbeth for Shakespeare in the Park back in 2006 and thought that was pretty fantastic as well.  The subtitles also helped to improve my experience.  Operetic voices will probably never be my taste, but they make so much more sense in this context than for a solo at church.
