Is it just me?

I'm a little afraid to say this but . . . is it just me or is the new fall line for Lilly missing something? I hate to say it because many of my favorite bloggers have been singing its praises. Part of me feels like it's sacrilige for me to say anything negative about a designer that has served me so faithfully. Don't get me wrong, I have seen a dress and a pink sweater set I would love. Nevertheless, I'm used to wanting every single dress and every single top. I think I just want more pink. And I would like to see more dresses with much more shape to them. Now I feel bad. Oh well, there are enough summer clothes that I am in love with to get me to spring. It's not like I dress according to the season like I should anyway.

Drop Dead Diva

I have started watching this new show on lifetime called Drop Dead Diva. Margaret Cho has a small role. It's about a skinny dumb blond girl who dies and comes back as a smart fat brunette attorney. I used to love legal shows, but now all I can do is moan and groan about how unrealistic they make the courtroom scenes. I've always been a nerd, but now I am a law nerd too. There was this part on the show where the opposing party comes up to the lawyer and her client offering a settlement. Without consulting her client, the attorney says absolutely not. All I can so is scream out loud at the tv, "No. You can't do that. You're client gets to make any decisions about settlements. You didn't even ask her. You can't do that!." How did I become this person?

Sometimes my dad is really cool. Last week he called to tell me that there are Lilly Pulitzer dresses on sale at smartbargains.com and offered to buy me one. Here's the one I picked:

It just came in the mail and I love the way it fits. It's nice when clothes fit the same on me as they do on the hanger. I have to have a lot of trust in a brand to buy the clothes on line without trying them on first. This will be the only orange thing in my wardrobe.

good news, bad news

The rest of last weekend was just as fun as the first half. We drove up to Provincetown to see the Pilgrim Monument. We ate out on the balcony of a restaurant near the water called Enza which was perfect for watching the fireworks. Sunday morning we woke up and played a round of golf before heading home. Golf carts are so much easier to drive than cars. Overall it was a fabulous weekend. I usually hate to leave the island (Manhattan), but this trip turned out to be worth it.

Bad news: Privileged, one of my favorite shows, is cancelled.
Good news: I am very happy that Joanna Garcia will be joining the cast of Gossip Girl.
Bad news: Blair never made it into Yale
Good news: Blair will be attending NYU, the greatest college ever invented in the history of the world.
Bad news: I passed up getting the most beautiful clutch at In the Pink while on Martha's Vineyard.

Musings from the Cape

V brought me to the Cape this weekend. Yesterday we spent the whole day on the Vineyard and it was super. We went to Oak Bluffs where we ate at a Thai Food restaurant and walked around. We went to the beach. Then we took the bus to Edgartown. I got fudge and we did some shopping. I was hoping to get this red strapless dress from the Vineyard Vines flagship store but they were all out. I went to In the Pink and found this incredible clutch. It was white a gold on the outside and hot pink on the inside. It was a li ttle pricey so I passed. I went to the cutest little boutique called Nell. It had a lot of cute clothes and accessories. I got the white lacoste headband I had been wanting.

Nell had such a fabulous assortment of designers that it inspired me to start thinking more about the boutique I would love to own some day. I would call it pink and greenlee. My boutique would consist of 5 primary sections divided by the clothes in the colors of pink, green, yellow, blue, and white. I might have some denim on shelves in the back but primarily these color groupings would define my shop. I would try to have Lilly, Kate Spade, and Vineyard Vines consistently available. Other brands I would rotate through would include CK Bradley, Molly B, Elizabeth McKay, Shoshanna, Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenburg, and Tulle. I was wearing the Lilly blue monkey dress yesterday and I got more complements in one day then I would get in a month living in the city. I realize that I am much more inspired by the clothes of the girls I grew up with in Augusta than with the fashionistas of the city.

Finally, we headed from Edgartown to Vineyard Haven where we ate at the Black Dog Taven. I had the gnocchi and I have to say it was tasty. Spike Lee was eating there too. He walked by our table on the way out and was wearing a Michael Jackson t-shirt and a Yankees cap. That was cool.

Today we rented bikes and for the first time in my life I actually rode a bike. Albeit I rode through grass and not that far, but I actually pedaled several times without falling off. It was incredible. It's sad that I never learned as a child (my parents never bought me a bike nor did they attempt to teach me), but I am glad that after all this time I am conquering my fear and learning.
