The Band's Visit

Season tickets to Broadway in Atlanta shows at the Fox Theater were a condition of moving here. Broadway is one of my greatest loves and it's painful not to be able to just hop on the Subway and go see the latest hit show. Instead I'm stuck seeing a random assortment of shows years after release with a second rate cast at a theater too large for decent viewing. Nevertheless, the chance to see this caliber of musical theater is a blessing. Last year I finally saw Hamilton and it was actually easier to get tickets here than in New York.

The Fox Theater is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen and also the most enormous. For reference there are 1232 seats in the Nederlander Theater where I saw Rent eight times on Broadway. The theater here has 4665 seats. That means that approximately 25 percent of the seats are great to decent. The other 75 percent are too far to see anything without binoculars.

Last week we saw The Band's Visit for C's birthday. It was a solid show that I would not have picked out of all that Broadway has to offer. The musicians were spectacular. The acting and singing was good. The story was ho hum. The entire show takes place over one night and there is not enough character development to make you care much about any of the characters. It was enjoyable and that's about it.

Atlanta requires a positive attitude. Low standards also help.

Mad Plaid

The Black Watch tartan is a personal favorite of mine and I'm planning for next year's Christmas card in advance. These arrived for the kids and I today, but now I need to find something similar for C.

Fortunately there is no dearth of the pattern. Just a matter of finding the best match.

What I'm Reading

How many "Good Night" books does a one year old need? What's funny is that my son has even more of them so my daughter has access to all those as well. They represent maybe five percent of their total libraries. It's just amazing to me how many books these kids have accumulated. It has really removed any reason to cart them to one of our local libraries for anything other than activities.

I have thankfully managed to get through a couple of non board books in 2020. While Death in the Stacks was great Lions and Tigers and Murder, Oh My was a disappointment. It felt like a haphazard finale to an otherwise captivating series. I'm looking for a series as great as Crazy Rich Asians, but books as good as those are rare.

Matchy Matchy

Started off the year right by scoring exactly what I wanted at the Lilly sale. It's so great that they do previews in store now because that online queue is stressful. Last night we went to Phipps Plaza to see what was left and lo and behold I found these.
Mini Franci Metallic Jacquard & Regular in Bermuda Blue Lagoon
I previously purchased both the pink and the gold versions for my daughter, W. She's only 14 months but they'll fit her soon enough. You have to plan ahead if you want to get these babies at good prices. Hope I don't sound too much like Rebecca Bloom right now. Gotta go. First Hallmark mystery of the year is coming on tonight.

2020

Will be the year I:

(1) Wean my now 14 month old daughter W. I nursed my 4 year old for 31 months. I've spent the last 5 years either pregnant and/or nursing and I just want my body back.
(2) Konmari my closet. Our house is 110 years old and the closets are tiny. This is long overdue.
(3) See Mariah in concert.
(4) Visit NYC. I haven't been since October of 2017 and I miss it so bad that it physically hurts.
(5) Settle my Dad's estate. The worst thing that happened in the last 4 years is losing my Dad. I was pregnant at the time, but I've exhausted all the excuses I have for putting it off.

Post Christmas Letdown

I leaned into Christmas so hard in 2019 that I dragged my family to Disney World to experience all the festivities from Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party to the Candlelight Processional at Epcot. I managed to watch 30 Hallmark Christmas movies and Noelle on Disney+, a new Christmas favorite. Finally, I outfitted my children and myself in an obscene amount of holiday tartan. Apparently I didn't get my fix because I'm still eyeing all of this:

Happy New Year

Shake Shack on the beltline.
Inspired by my friend Jammie I have decided to revive this blog after a 4+ year hiatus. In the past four years I've had two kids, moved to Atlanta, and do more real estate than law. Perhaps I should rename this thing. Motherhood has made me boring, but Atlanta is at the root of my lack of posting. There is nothing notable here. I've never cared to court readers so I'm starting this up again for myself. Perhaps I can use it as motivation to find some as yet undiscovered treasures.
